Dr Eric Erel is the director of the Carat Gem Lab, a gemological laboratory based in France, which he founded in 2009 after getting many years of experience in the field of gemology.
He obtained a master degree in molecular physic and chemistry from the University of Metz in France in 2000. Then he conducted further research for a period of three years and was awarded his doctorate degree in chemistry from the same university in 2003. During the four years that he has spent at the Laboratory of Mass Spectrometry and Laser Chemistry, he intensively studied trace element characterizations and laser ablation processes of minerals, as well as the characterization of natural and synthetic gemstones.
Subsequently he joined in 2004 the European Gemological Laboratory (E.G.L.) located in Vancouver (Canada), and then worked at the Gubelin Gemological Laboratory in Lucerne (Switzerland) from 2006 to 2009.
During those years, he published and co-published numerous articles in international gemological magazines and journals. Some of these articles can be downloaded on this website.
